October 2011
On 7th October 2011, our Board of Trustees released the statement below:

Charities propose to merge West Yorkshire operations

The St Vincent DePaul Society (England and Wales) and CHAS (Bradford) are in negotiations regarding putting together their furniture and advice services in Leeds and Bradford in an effort to provide greater help and improved services to the people West Yorkshire.

Both charities have been operating furniture re-use projects and debt advice services in Leeds and Bradford for at least 30 years and have very similar aims and objectives.

In the current economic climate it is imperative that charities co-operate and work together to give the best possible assistance to families and individuals with needs. The Trustees of both organisations believe that by merging into one operation, CHAS and SVP can become even more effective in fighting poverty. In the longer term it is the intention to expand the services across the area.

The date for completion is aimed for November subject to all necessary legal processes and approval from the Trustees of both organisations. Staff will continue to work secure in the knowledge they belong to a much bigger, stronger project which will be one of the largest service providers in West Yorkshire.

This is a tremendous move forward for both charities and will enable continued services and expansion in new areas. It will strengthen the financial position of the merged organisation increasing its ability to continue and grow.

Further details will be announced as merger talks continue.

SEPTEMBER 2011
Check out our new look advertising leaflet in a centre near you. During August and September Lauren Carroll, a former volunteer for CHAS, has been working on a publicity campaign to make sure people know about the services we offer. Lauren has been speaking to community centres, doctors surgeries and other organisations across the district - we hope that some new events and activities will be a result. Lauren also had the task of distributing 10,000 copies of our new leaflets; which she did in record time! 6000 of them are being distributed to households in mid September. If you know someone who would benefit from our services please pass on our website address or email us their details so we can send a leaflet.

AUGUST 2011

Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales Supports CHAS Bradford:
We are delighted to receive a grant of £30,000 over two years from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales. The funds will assist us to pilot an Assistant Director for Contracts, Advice and Support Services; a post taken on board by our Support Service Manager, Kenny Singh. In his new role Kenny will help us to develop and maintain our services during the difficult financial times ahead. Our Trustees would like to openly thank the Foundation for its help, we very much appreciate it.

Mystery Donor helps CHAS buy a new Van: Jan 2011
Staff and Trustees at CHAS Bradford were delighted when a mystery donor came forward to top up our Van Fund. Scurrah Wainwright Trust had previously donated £5000 to the fund. CHAS was able to purchase a new Van in January 2011. In recognition of his work for the Furniture Service founding member and lifelong Supporter of CHAS, Dick De Rome, was invited to present the keys to the staff and Vice Chair, Chris Copley.
