A Bit of A Do !!
On 11th April 2013, we held the official opening of our new premises and celebrated the coming together of the two charities. Guests were invited from around the District, as well as those who just chose to join us. Trustees of the former CHAS Bradford and St Vincent de Paul Society led the celebrations, along with staff and volunteers. Monsignor Micheal McQuinn blessed the new building and operations and founding member of CHAS Bradford, Dick De Rome declared the building officially open. Guests were then treated to tours of the new buildingnch in the upstairs boardroom. A great time was had by all.

CHAS @ St Vincent's Opens First Shop

CHAS @ St Vincent's is delighted to announce that we have a new shop in the centre of Bradford.  We have opened our first venture in Unit 9, Arndale House, Market Street, Bradford, BD1 1EJ. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm. Previously CHAS traded from a former school building in Sedgefield Terrace; a more prominent position was needed though so the Charity could grow.

The shop is selling smaller peices of furniture, bric-a-brac, clothing and household goods. Larger furniture will continue to be sold from our Rebecca Street base until that too is relocated in the near future.   Natallie Humphries has joined the CHAS staff to run the shop along with a team of gallant volunteers. The shop began trading in mid August. An official opening ceremony to mark this important occasion is being conducted by Monsignor Peter Rosser, a Trustee of the former CHAS Bradford.

Why not join our new team of shop volunteers - call into the shop and speak to Natallie or ring 01274 744930 for a volunteer pack.

CHAS Bradford joins forces with St Vincent de Paul Society (England and Wales)
CHAS Bradford and St Vincent de Paul Society (England and Wales) are delighted to announce the decision to merge.  From 1st April 2012 CHAS Bradford will be known as CHAS @ St Vincent’s.

Being part of a national organisation will open doors for CHAS @ St Vincent’s to be part of regional and national funding bids. All of CHAS Bradford’s existing funding contracts are being moved across to the new organisation. Both Bradford Council and Incommunities have said that they are pleased with the news and hope it will bring new opportunities to work together.  This is an exciting time.

It is the end of an era for CHAS Bradford, which brings an element of sadness, however it is not the end for CHAS. Trustees and staff hope that our decision to evolve into CHAS @ St Vincent’s has ensured that our services will continue for many years to come.

On 7th October 2011, our Board of Trustees released the statement below:

Charities propose to merge West Yorkshire operations
The St Vincent DePaul Society (England and Wales) and CHAS (Bradford) are in negotiations regarding putting together their furniture and advice services in Leeds and Bradford in an effort to provide greater help and improved services to the people West Yorkshire.

Both charities have been operating furniture re-use projects and debt advice services in Leeds and Bradford for at least 30 years and have very similar aims and objectives.

In the current economic climate it is imperative that charities co-operate and work together to give the best possible assistance to families and individuals with needs. The Trustees of both organisations believe that by merging into one operation, CHAS and SVP can become even more effective in fighting poverty. In the longer term it is the intention to expand the services across the area.

The date for completion is aimed for November subject to all necessary legal processes and approval from the Trustees of both organisations. Staff will continue to work secure in the knowledge they belong to a much bigger, stronger project which will be one of the largest service providers in West Yorkshire.

This is a tremendous move forward for both charities and will enable continued services and expansion in new areas. It will strengthen the financial position of the merged organisation increasing its ability to continue and grow.

Further details will be announced as merger talks continue.

SEPTEMBER 2011
Check out our new look advertising leaflet in a centre near you. During August and September Lauren Carroll, a former volunteer for CHAS, has been working on a publicity campaign to make sure people know about the services we offer. Lauren has been speaking to community centres, doctors surgeries and other organisations across the district - we hope that some new events and activities will be a result. Lauren also had the task of distributing 10,000 copies of our new leaflets; which she did in record time! 6000 of them are being distributed to households in mid September. If you know someone who would benefit from our services please pass on our website address or email us their details so we can send a leaflet.
